Update from Administrator – June 27, 2022

June 23, 2022

Dear resident & Family member,

I hope this letter finds you doing well! I want to update you on new happenings at our home however let me start by sharing we have not received any positive COVID test results this week. Tomorrow, we are having a bake sale starting at 11 AM. Tables will be set up in our lobby with plenty of goodies for sale. From home baked to store bought, these bake sale items will be available

for everyone to enjoy. Please feel free to stop by if visiting. We will have other bake sales within the next few weeks with hope to raise money for Athena’s annual “Taking Care of our Own.”

The Taking Care of Our Own ,vas initially created to raise money and a\·vareness for the Susan G Kamen for the Cure, which benefits breast cancer prevention and research. After realizing how many Athena employees were undergoing several types of cancer treatments, including a spouse of one of the original Athena partners, the 01ganizers of the tournament turned their focus to Athena employees. The need to “take care of our own” by using funds we raised to go directly to our staff, in their time of need – as identified and put into place. Thus, the renaming and re-organization into what is now the Taking Care of Our Own.

On Tuesday, residents and staff celebrated along with Athena representatives from corporate to honor of our Recreation Director, Barbara Ellis-Valtas. Barbara received Athena’s first annual appreciation award for her hard work, devotion, and commitment to enhancing the lives of residents. The surprise party was a tremendous success and enjoyed by all! Barbara received a beautiful, engraved plaque, flowers and many beautiful sentiments were shared among residents and staff. Please check out the photos on our Facebook page. Among other things celebrated this week, we had a “Jaws Day.” Residents and staff enjoyed visits from our friendly shark, A.KA. Barbara, and “fish and chips” packets, information packets and a fun word search puzzle about shark facts was passed out to residents and staff.

In closing, we look forward to our upcoming Las Vegas Day where our residents will enjoy “mocktails,” assorted goodies and an array of casino games. There also will be a special appearance from a mystery guest to add a little fun filled entertainment! Please join me in welcoming our new receptionist, Dawn. She is a wonderful addition to our team! Know of anyone looking for a RN, LPN, C.N.A. or C.M.T. position? If so, refer them to us! We thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Regards,
Lori Levine, BSW, LNHA
